These units have great stats, and with your tech and building upgrades, will be able to chew apart most units in a slugfest. Hammer-and-anvil tactics will utilize this best, where your high charge values will cause massive damage in the initial hit.Īs mentioned above, your late game will involve you recruiting superior units. One thing to note is that Arverni units have some of the highest charge values in the game. In the late game, this doesn't work as well, as units will have higher defensive stats. Have control groups of small units of javelin, have them focus different units down, rinse and repeat. You can use hammer-and-anvil tactics if you'd like, but the easiest way I've found is to simply have your javelin units focus fire units to death to cause massive routs. Your general should be running around the flanks and rear, devastating enemy ranged units on his own. A lot of your tactics in battle will be for your levy freemen to engage the enemy, while your skirmishers/youths focus fire melee units down. You should be using him in every battle as they will usually chew up anything they come across early game. The weakness of the Arverni units is that they are generally more expensive, and will stress your economy more than their same-tier counterparts.īarbarian tribes differ from other factions in that your general unit is very strong. So the Arverni advantage in units is basically that they have nothing terribly unique, but the units they have that are standard have better stats than most of their counter-parts in other factions at the same technological tier. Arverni units also have some powerful active abilities in counter-cavalry tactics, headhunt, and frenzy. Most of your campaign will be in warmer climates so the better stats here are great. Oathsworn get better stats because the Iceni/Suebi units get cold resistance, basically. Compare the Oathsworn to Suebi Sword Masters or Iceni Heroic Nobles. I will say this though: The top tier Arverni units are better stat-wise to their Iceni and Suebi counterparts. You can pick up celtic warriors pretty quickly which can help you if you're having trouble with your neighbors. Personally, I do not use the savage dogs regularly as they feel gimmicky. The only standout unit is the savage dogs units, which are hilariously strong against light infantry units. The Arverni roster isn't terribly diverse: They have standard spearmen, sword infantry, melee cavalry, and missile infantry. They're all solid units that will take you far. Spearmen, slingers, and peltasts will make up your starter army. I had posted this elsewhere, but I'll repost it here: Think we missed one?
